Biography

Morgan Bennett is a North Carolina criminal defense attorney who has practiced criminal law since 2013. Before entering private practice, she spent nearly a decade as a public defender in Durham and Guilford counties, representing clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges.

Morgan is a North Carolina native originally from the Triangle area. She attended Appalachian State University as an honors student, earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science: International and Comparative Politics with a minor in Sociology. In 2010, she moved to the Triad to attend Elon University School of Law. In her free time, Morgan enjoys traveling and spending time with her two children.

Criminal Defense Experience

At Elon Law, Morgan became a member of the Elon Law Innocence Project, where she found her calling as a criminal defense attorney. She also served as an editor of the Elon Law Review and graduated cum laude in 2013.

After passing the North Carolina Bar in 2013, Morgan began her career at the Durham County Public Defender’s Office. She represented juveniles accused of offenses ranging from drug possession to serious assaults, robbery, and kidnapping.

In 2016, Morgan joined the Guilford County Public Defender’s Office and remained there until entering private practice in 2022.

Throughout nearly a decade as a public defender, Morgan gained extensive advocacy and litigation experience representing people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses.Morgan brings a deep knowledge of North Carolina criminal law, criminal procedure, and the criminal justice system to her practice. She works to protect her clients’ statutory and constitutional rights at every stage of the criminal process.

Teaching Experience

Morgan has also served as an adjunct professor at Elon University School of Law, teaching first-year law students in a specialized criminal law course focused on the progression of a criminal case from beginning to end.
