Morgan Bennett is a North Carolina native, originally from the Triangle area. She attended Appalachian State University as an honors student. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science: International and Comparative Politics, and a minor in Sociology. Morgan moved to the Triad in 2010 to attend law school at Elon University School of Law. There, she became a member of the Elon Law Innocence Project, where she found her calling as a criminal defense attorney. Morgan was an editor of the Elon Law Review, and she graduated cum laude in 2013. Upon passing the bar in 2013, Morgan began her career in criminal defense at the Durham County Public Defender’s Office. She advocated for juveniles accused of all types of crimes from drug possession to serious assaults, robberies, and kidnapping.
In 2016, Morgan moved to the Guilford County Public Defender’s Office, as she lived in Greensboro and had come to call the Triad home. She remained in that position until joining Greenwood Law in 2022. Throughout her nearly decade-long career as a public defender, Morgan has gained invaluable experience in advocacy and litigation on behalf of the criminally accused. She has represented people charged with all types of misdemeanor and felony offenses including DWI, larceny, domestic violence, serious assaults, drug possession and trafficking, kidnapping, burglary, breaking or entering, financial crimes, death by motor vehicle, sex offenses, and murder. She brings a deep knowledge of the criminal justice system, criminal laws, and procedure to her practice. She is dedicated to her clients, and fights fearlessly for their interests. She works hard to ensure that her clients’ statutory and constitutional rights are protected at every stage of the criminal process.
Morgan has also taught as an adjunct professor at Elon Law School, instructing first year law students in a specialized criminal law course that focuses on specific aspects of a criminal case from start to finish.
Morgan is a member of the North Carolina Bar. In her free time, she enjoys taking trips with her husband, spending time in the mountains, seeing friends and family, and making crafts with her five-year-old daughter.
